Re: 2001 Passat caliper rewind tool direction?

Thats a standard looking tool. It will work fine. Yes clockwise to wind piston in. They are also a handy tool to push in the front pistons when changing pads, even though the front are not threaded. Thanks again. Wouldn't you need some sort of tool that doesn't have a the prongs on that lock into t...

Re: 2001 Passat caliper rewind tool direction?

I have also been told on another forum both sides are clockwise and the tool I have should do the job.
Hopefully this info will help somebody else out too.

2001 Passat caliper rewind tool direction?

Does anyone know what direction you turn the rear caliper pistons and do I need a LH AND RH tool? The re-wind tool I have is labeled as LH (see below)and would only turn the pistons in a clockwise direction. Don't want to start the job if I don't have all the right equipment. Vehicle is a 1.8 T SE 2...

Re: Central locking – all doors not always locking/unlocking

Why would the battery terminal require to be disconnected? The switch either cleans up or doesn't I would have thought? This avoids any chance of shorting out other electrical components inside the lock that may also get soaked during the process. It takes a while for the cleaner to fully evaporate...

Re: Central locking – all doors not always locking/unlocking

Hope it works for you too. Keep an eye on the excess coming out of the bottom of the door. It will hopefully run out clear after 20 seconds or so of spraying. Don't forget to disconnect battery first and leave a while before re-connecting. Good luck. Here's a link to the contact cleaner I used if an...

Re: Central locking – all doors not always locking/unlocking

An old thread I know, but this may be of some help to some. I lost my door open warning light, interior and bottom door lights, all on front passenger side. Fault code pulled was 00929 - Locking module for central locking: front passenger side F221 27-00 - implausible signal. I suspected micro switc...

Re: Oil filter question

Not really, 502.00 , 505.00 meets the requirements set out in the handbook and the price is right.
It's an old car but I think I'm still giving it a decent drink every 1-2k

Re: Oil filter question

Thanks for the info. I do always use the large filters and I've been using Triple QX fully synthetic for many years now and have never had any indication of sludge or low oil pressure. I've just replaced all four upper control arms so budget spent this year on the old girl, but I will think about do...

Re: Oil filter question

Thanks for the advice, I did the oil and filter change now, without jacking the car up.
I used fully synthetic 5W/40 as I do every year, and ended up with a Bosch P7004 oil filter.

Re: Oil filter question

I'm sure they are, I just wondered why the Mann (& bosh) compatible filters had the four small holes as opposed to eight.
The Mahle filter has eight, as per the VW/Audi genuine one.

Oil filter question

I thought Mann made the oil filters for VW, and seeing as VW want £14 for one (068 115 561 F) and the Mann is half that price I thought I might try one. Looking online though it seems the Mann (W940/66) is quite different looking, and has 4 holes around the top as opposed to 8 on the genuine VW filt...

Re: Bosch S3 008 sufficient?

Thanks for confirming that.
For some reason Bosch technical only recommend the ones below.

S3 005 56 Ah / 480 cca
S4 005 60 Ah / 540 cca
S5 008 77Ah / 780 cca

All of which doesn't quite add up, because the S3 008 I ordered is 70Ah / 640 cca and the same dimensions as the S5 008.

Thanks for the reply, Bosch technical tell me it's the wrong one, but it' s higher spec than the S3 005 or S4 005 they recommend :???:

Bosch S3 008 sufficient?

Hi Folks. Just ordered a battery on the quick and now I'm thinking it might no be a bit under powered.
It's Bosch S3 008 (70Ah and 640 CCA) and it's for a 2001 1.8T.
Have I made a booby?
Thanks for looking

Re: Oil filler cap - ventilated?

Its meant to seal not vent, why is that so hard to understand? I get it is meant to seal. The fact that it only vents if pressure gets too high is what appeals. Why is that so hard to understand? If the pressure gets too high then somethings wrong. Granted, but if VW themselves actually make...
