Re: Turns over slowly but won't start
I put the multimeter on whilst cranking last night and the voltage dropped to 2v!
I'll put a new one on and go from there.

Turns over slowly but won't start
Hi guys, My 2002 1.9 TDI passat was working fine 2 days ago when I last used it. However, when I've tried to start it today it turns over 2 or 3 times really slowly and then stops until I try the key again. It won't actually start at all. When I'm trying to turn it over, all the lights on the dash g...

Re: Brake pedal sinking to floor
I would go for weak seals in the mc. Work fine under load but let's fluid by with little pressure? Yep, the brakes still work perfectly. But it doesn't take a lot of pressure to get the pedal to the floor when the car is just ticking over parked up. I did a vac line simplification tonight with sili...

Re: Pressed metal plates / surrounds - opinions please
I personally find the plain plates too basic and cheap looking. But it's down to personal preference isn't it

Re: Brake pedal sinking to floor
I'd assumed (possibly incorrectly) that the garage had checked for leaks - it's a fair point with mechanics these days, have a look yourself. Agree with the possibility of the seals inside the master cylinder, but would tend to be more permanent than intermittent, and would give a poor result on th...

Re: Brake pedal sinking to floor
Sorry mate, just reread the thread! Also noticed you mentioned particularly it happens when braking hard on the motorway - it's not just the ABS kicking in is it? Mine felt horrible on my Avensis when the ABS took over, not had to rely on it since changing to the Passat On the motorway under heavy ...

Re: Brake pedal sinking to floor
I've tried pressing on the hard pedal whilst the engine is off, and then starting it - the pedal starts to sink. Takes about 10 seconds if I press hard. With normal use, the pedal feels fine and the brakes seem to work as they should. It's just when you press down hard. Maybe I should just leave it ...

Re: Pressed metal plates / surrounds - opinions please
I went for pressed metal with the GB logo and a set of holders from Awesome GTI. I think they look great personally. I don't like the metal plates without holders.
Mine have got the BS logo and postcode of the maker on them. I've had them on for 2 years and never had a problem.

Re: Brake pedal sinking to floor
Got the car back from the garage, and the mechanic said the car brake tested fine. But he said the master cylinder could be a possibility. The thing is, the car seems to stop ok until normal driving, but loses bite if I have to brake hard on the motorway. I asked my mate to try the pedal on his 2004...

Brake pedal sinking to floor
Hi, My 2002 Passat TDI has a brake pedal problem. When the engine is running and idle, I can slowly press the pedal all the way to the floor. If I pump it, it goes firm but with a lot of force will sink down again. When the engine is off, I can't make it sink at all. I've had the car 2½ years and d...

Re: Aftermarket radio reception driving me mad
I had already replaced the aerial base for a brand new genuine one (£50!) and I'd tried 3 different versions of the adapter that puts the 12v into the co-ax. However, I have managed to fix the problem! I turns out one of my amps was faulty and when it kicked in I lost most of my radio reception. It...

Re: Worth upgrading speakers??
I wouldn't bother fitting co-axials, just stick a set of components in with the tweeters. I'm not sure on the size of the Infinity tweeters, but my Alpine tweeters fit perfectly in the hole of the OE tweeters. I little dab of super glue held them in firmly. A decent set of components will make a big...

Aftermarket radio reception driving me mad
I've been having FM reception issues ever since I took out the OE headunit and fitted an aftermarket stereo. It's starting me to drive me mad now as I've pretty much changed every part and is still isn't right. I've tried 2 different headunits (Kenwood and JVC), a new amplified aerial base and mast,...

Re: Thoughts on this
I put a set of Alpine Type-G components in my front doors running off a JBL 2-channel amp. I disconnected the rear speakers and it still sounds really good. The Aplines are really loud and clear, I think they're about 90w RMS each. I have a sub running off a second amp but even when that's removed t...

I personally wouldn't recommend the AMD chips, much better going for a minimum of an Intel Core i3, an i5 would be even better.

Re: Completely Water Free Coolant!!!
It was interesting looking stuff! Ideal for old stuff like the TR6.
I think the risk of blowing a hose is greatly reduced too as there isn't any pressure build up in the cooling system.

Re: Anyone else a diesel convert?
My first diesel was a Mk3 Mondeo, and the problems it had were enough to put me off diesels for a bit and I went back to petrol. Then the petrol prices were starting to give me wallet-ache as I do 20k miles a year so I started looking again. I didn't want another common rail diesel due to the proble...
