Bye Bye Passat
Well, i finally lost all faith with the Passat. It's been 35K of generally comfortable motoring over the last 18 months, but I could no longer live with the leaking footwell/wet carpets which despite having vast amounts of informed knowledge thrown at it, confounded me and the mechanics. So the old ...

Re: DMF - Cue Walletectomy
The old girl had a hissy fit on the way back from viewing the Rover. Threw an alternator workshop error, battery warning light, dimmed the lights...had to call out the RAC. I left work at 4pm....got home finally at nearly 8pm, after recovering the car to my local mechanic - boy did he get a shock se...

I've had a few B5.5s, and that never happened. It just pops the lock.
It does on the B6 though.

DMF - Cue Walletectomy
So the last few days, the old girl has given a little rattle noise shortly after start up, then produces this rattle/grating noise on downshifts, and sometimes in short reverse manoeuvres, as well as occasionally while sitting in traffic. This morning, it even managed it on an upshift. I can only as...

Re: Replacement stereo fitting advice
Think it still will, but got to be cheaper than halfords charging for cages and fascia adapters and wiring harness adaptors that it sounds like it doesn't actually need. Sadly, the swimming pool in the passenger side has re-appeared this weekend (probably thanks to Saharan sand clogging bungs) so th...

whoops, my bad. Sorry. One of the problems of constant swtiching between desktop and mobile, I lost track and thought I was in a B5.5 sub forum..... Ok, right, well the car in question is a 54 plate, B5.5, which is currently fitted with the Gamma cassette radio and 6 disc in-dash changer combo. I as...

Re: Replacement stereo fitting advice
So is the general concensus (judging from lack of responses) that I should just cough up the halfords fees? Even the local indepent wants £40, plus all the parts, which end up equaling halfords - though at least this guy defintely looks like he know what he's doing, and is older than the straggly f...

I'm looking at a new stereo too.... double din Alphin w235BT. Currently £120 on Halfrauds....£40 saving over the in-store price. Any idea on the required parts though to make this work - cage, fascia surrounds etc I will need and where to source? Halfrauds wanted an extra £75 on top to fit and su...

Re: Wheel nut removal tool
I went to my local main dealer, the parts guy just took their master set out into the car park found the one I needed then sold me one. :D I discovered mine was missing when I asked my local to rotate my wheels. The "factory original tool kit" was actually from an Audi! The local grease m...

Re: Identify my oil leak.....
I'm sure a friendly helpful member would........there just seems to be a lack of members nearby that have VCDS. Can you actually map out the EGR using VCDS, or simply stop the light from shwoing up on the dash? Obviously, the latter still leaves the system trying to use the valve, which I'd not want...

You deleted it from the ECU for £10? or was that for the mechanical/parts?lee1 wrote:
The egr valve for my car is £179 so when i deleted it for £10 i save hassle and money a lot of money
If you got it deleted from ECU for £10, that information must be worth sharing (for a fee/beer tokens?)

Re: Identify my oil leak.....
I've seen Turbo_Scotty's threads, and am quite interested, certainly at that price, given the next option is twice the price. I've just had a local company refuse to do the egr removal/delete from ECU as they say it causes more problems than its worth, and if the cars running, why bother? This from ...

Re: Identify my oil leak.....
I was wondering, having read a few threads about EGR removal/replacement with straight pipe..... will this trigger any dash warning lights? becuase any dash wanring lights will be an MOT fail...... I successfully blanked off the EGR in SWMBO's LR Discovery, but that's a true piece of agriculture wit...

Re: Odd Clicking/Ticking noise
With the motor running, and the climatronic off completely, no noise. I pressed 'auto', and it started up. I've been running it in 'econ' for the last day or two, but this morning i *think* i could hear it once or twice as I pushed the car back ....though at 6am, i wouldn't trust my hearing. So are ...

In the absence of being able to photo the offending area of the engine bay..... Under the cover, there is this shiny bit that looks a lot like a sort of top hat - it sits under a rubber bung/flap thing when the cover is in place. It's got a large rubber pipe going into it, a few smaller rubber pipes...

Sorry to barge in on this thread, but.....are we talking about the 3 or 4 screws that hold the engine cover to the block? Odd Clicking/Ticking noise
I say ticking, but it's not regular or rythmic. Obivously, I've only heard it at idle from outside the car, can't hear it inside. It's coming from the very front of the engine, seems to be in front of the rad, gets clearer/stronger as I move my ear lower down from the bonnet leading edge, heading to...

Looking for a reputable and reasonably priced VAG specialist in the Northwest (between Blackpool and Manchester) I've previously been an Awesome GTI customer, but if I can avoid trekking to Irlam from Blackpool, I'd rather avoid it. This is quite infuriating. Got the pollen filter fixed eventually, and carpet started to dry out. Then, out of nowhere two days ago, it was sopping wet again, but too wet for me to stand around fiddling to work out why. This morning, I complete my commute and pulled out the wet n dry to tackle the b...

One thing I've discovered for ETKA and in attempting to apply the VW seal fix.... It will all be for naught if your vehicle is missing the rain deflector. According to ETKA, there's a curved channel that runs over the filter, positioned under where the windscreen scuttle extends over the filter. Tur...

I ended up with an 04 highline B5.5, AWX engine with the 5 speed box... 110k on the clock. No rust on the inner arches, pretty immaculate interor ,save the gearbox gaitor, but I've got a proper leather one and need to get it fitted. I've replaced a wing mirror indicator that was full of water, and I...

Re: Reverse sensor fault b5.5
I had a similar problem, and you don't even need to get it scanned to find out if one sensor isn't working. Turn on the ignition to position two so you have all your electrics, but don't start the engine. Engage reverse. Then nip round to the back of the car and put your ear up to each sensor - you'...
