Re: Wind noise
As expected the dealer reckons the wind noise is normal. To be fair the technician would have the seals etc. replaced under warranty but thought that I wouldn't notice any difference. He suggested that a set of wind deflectors would help but I'm reluctant to fit these as I feel that they might just ...

Wind noise
My b8 estate seems to have developed a very marked wind noise. It seems to be coming from the area nearest to my right ear when I'm in the driving seat (RHD). It sounds as if a window has been left very slightly open. I've checked the windows but all are tightly shut and I can find no faults in all ...

Re: Park Assist is it any good ?
I recently bought a pre-registered b8 estate. When I collected it I noticed it was fitted with park assist. The dealer hadn't noticed it so, in a sense, I didn't pay for it. It's a brilliant party trick to show unsuspecting passengers who are amazed to see the steering wheel spinning round at high s...

Re: Daylight running lights - LED
Thanks for the replies. Yes I do want to replace the DRL's next to the fogs. Unfortunately I've bought LED's for older Passats and Golfs with very mixed results; many were dim/blue rubbish that's why I was wondering if anyone had installed some on a B8.

Daylight running lights - LED
Has anyone fitted B8 DRL's with LED's?
I understand that the fitting is W21W and must be canbus acceptable to prevent bulb out messages. There seems to be dozens of suppliers but I'm very wary about the quality of them.
I'd be grateful for comments about brightness, quality, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Rear Bumper Protectors
I bought this on ebay about 3 months ago http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-VW-Passat-B7-Saloon-Rear-Guard-Bumper-Protector-/221718870085 Made of fairly thick, tough plastic and fitted OK. It was very easy to fit and seems to have stuck firmly. I thought that it was expensive for what it is but th...

Re: B7 140bhp DSG good buy?
My wife and I have had 4 140bhp DSG b7 Passats with no trouble whatsoever. They're excellent cars and we'd never go back to manual gearboxes. There might be a bit of confusion here over oil and servicing. The car you are buying may be set up for annual servicing or Long Life Service. In both cases t...

Re: 205/50R17 - Anybody running this size?
Forget the looks - the circumference of your 'new' tyres will be 25mm less and the diameter 8mm less. This will obviously affect the gearing and speedo readings. Also, AFAIK the maximum width of the wheel rim to accept the 205 tyres is 7". I think that your existing rims are wider than 7"....

Re: 11 million VWs under review?
If you refuse to have the modifications done you could have a problem when you come to sell the car. VW's data base will record the modifications and their absence would cause difficulties if you try to trade the car in at a VW dealer. Private buyers or other car dealers will also require proof that...

Re: Front tyre queries
The Executive should have 17" tyres but the Executive Style has 18". That's probably where the confusion came from. BTW, I'm amazed you got 27k out of the front tyres.

Did you buy the car from new? If not, are you sure that the original wheels were 17"? Is it possible that someone has swapped original 18" wheels for 17"?

Here's the press release that seems to confirm b7 Passats rated as EU5 are affected -
http://www.vwpress.co.uk/release-2472.htm
This doesn't suggest that the offending software is activated on UK vehicles as UK emission requirements are less stringent than in some other countries.

Re: 11 million VWs under review?
I've just been reading info on the EA189 engines. It might be that the 'problem' may only affect 2nd. generation EA189 engines built since 2012 that use a regen system requiring AdBlue. AFAIK Passats in the UK have never needed AdBlue. I've probably got this wrong about what seems to be a very confu...

Look at the lever for adjusting seat height. On my wife's Passat this was rubbing on the plastic of the seat base and producing a squeaking sound even when there was no one in the seat. I stuck a piece of felt between the lever and where it rubs on the plastic.

Killed a rattle/vibration!
This might help someone. A rattle and vibration from (I thought) the fascia has been driving me mad for weeks. I've had the glove box, satnav, trim, air vents and bits of the fascia out with no success. After another determined effort today with the help of my wife, I realised that the noise was com...
