Re: Warranty question
Thanks for the replies. The VW warranty terms now make sense to me. I think I was 'misinformed' by a VW dealer who didn't like the Motorpoint logo on the number plates!

Warranty question
I'm getting conflicting answers for this. I've got a 6 month old b7 saloon bought from a non VW dealer (Motorpoint). The car is supposed to have a 3 year (60,000 miles) warranty, the first 2 years provided by VW and the third year via a VW dealer. Will the third year warranty still be valid as the u...

Re: 235/45/17 stock tyre change to 215/55/17
This comment will probably upset a few forum members! Why are people so bothered with what tyres look like? They're only round, black things after all. Surely safety and road holding is more important? Also, I'm convinced that manufacturers select the most suitable tyre size and type for a particula...

Thanks for that. I found the three screws below but not the top ones. Will now have another try to remove the box.

Remove glove box?
I've got a vibration/rattle from behind the glove box (I think). I want to remove the glove box to investigate but can't work out how. I'd be grateful for any help.

Re: Rain sensitive wipers
Whoever fitted the screen should have actuated the wipers and headlight sensor. Presumably the replacement was done through your insurers so get in touch with them if the glass people refuse. At the very least your insurers should pay a dealer to do the actuation as part of the screen replacement.

Re: Plastic protectors on wheel arches
Thanks for that - makes sense. I bet there were some red faces in VW when they realised that the 18" tyres protruded slightly from the bodywork; It was probably a lot cheaper than redesigning the bodywork! Takes me back 50 years to my MIni that had to have wheel arch extensions because I fitted...

Plastic protectors on wheel arches
Just bought a Executive Style 177 bhp estate. Anyone know what the small plastic extensions (protectors?) on the edge of the wheel arches are for? My theory is that under certain circumstances the tyres could contact the outer edge of the wheel arches. The Exec.Style is lowered by 15mm and there's n...

Re: Briskoda refugee seeking B8 advise
I've just got rid of my b8 150 DSG SE Business estate. Unfortunately I was never able to come to terms with the new seat design; on a short trip I had a lot of pain in my left thigh and after after a long trip my left leg became so numb that I eventually limped out of the car! The main reason is pro...

Re: first three months of ownership
Almost three months for my DSG Business Estate. I agree about the steering - I found it very twitchy compared to the b7 my wife drives. It's better if the steering is set to sport mode. The road holding is good but a lot softer than the b7; probably because of the different profile tyres (215/55 17 ...

Estate Boot - No flat floor!
 I've just found out that you can't have a completely flat floor extended load area in the Estate because the back seat bases don't tip forward. All my previous Passat Estates had tipping seat bases. IMO this is a completely retrograde step and I'm kicking myself for not noticing this before. I...

Re: Mirror Down Function
I'm hoping you are wrong but certainly the statement re memory seats is definitely wrong. I have 2 cars VW and a SEAT, neither have memory seats and bit have mirror down. The capability is to do with the control unit in the door having the capability not the seats. Are either of your VW's, Passat B...

Re: Mirror Down Function
To repeat - The mirror down function was only available with memory seats in the UK on the B7. There is no way either a dealer or VCDS owner will be able to activate this function otherwise. I would be delighted to be proved wrong!

Re: Passenger door wouldn't open
Door now fixed. I'm very impressed with the dealer; they did their best to fix the car and loaned me a CC courtesy car. Also a good will gesture for the inconvenience caused. However there's some worry about the broken cable being one of a faulty batch - if you hear an odd clicking sound when using ...

Update - a broken actuating cable that connects to the door handle. Unfortunately there isn't a replacement in the country! I've been offered a hire car but will wait a couple of days to see what develops.

Passenger door wouldn't open
Three week old B8 Business SE. My wife operated the inside door lever to get out of the car and nothing happened so she was trapped until I went round to the door and used the outside handle - very annoying to say the least! (and don't bother with the jokes!) There was no resistance when the lever w...

poi's and Vcard input on Discover Media
Anyone been able to import their personal poi's and Vcards to the Discover Media unit? I have a load of contacts that were on the 510 SatNav (previous b7) but have spent all afternoon trying to import them on to the new unit.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Anyone order one?
Yes, standard 17" wheels and SatNav. If it's any help I drove a b8 with optional 18" wheels and found the ride very hard. I believe the GT has lowered suspension as well - this won't help the ride. IMO it's really what you personally want in a car; because I'm old I prefer comfort to hurtl...

Re: Anyone order one?
Collected a 150 SE Business Estate in reflex silver yesterday. First impressions are very favourable. Much more refined and quieter than my previous b7. Very stable cornering and much less reaction to potholes and our lousy road surfaces. I've altered the steering to the Sport mode as I thought the ...

Re: rusty discs and uneven tyre wear
Try placing some very heavy weights (concrete paving slabs are good but make sure they can't move) in the boot, then find a quiet road and do a lot of very heavy braking from about 50mph. You could also try using the parking brake when moving. Estate cars are designed to carry heavy loads and the ba...
