It was the ICM.

I bought one online and the misfire has disappeared.

Thank you for your help.

Re: Misfire on low revs

That's good...you've found something that isn't working. I think you've already swapped over the individual coil modules to prove they all work, but I suppose it's worth double checking by swapping the No.3 coil with another one to confirm that (1) the No.3 plug still does not spark and (2) the ori...

Re: Misfire on low revs

Yes, i have tried swapping the coils, same result.
Cylinder 3 doesn't fire.
So you think it's the ICM?
Anyway to test it to be sure?

Re: Misfire on low revs

If you remove the spark plug, connect it to the coil pack and earth the plug body, you can start the car and check that the plug sparks to ascertain if the coil and plug are working correctly. Before you start the engine you could either screw an old plug in the plug hole, or perhaps leave that cyl...

Re: Misfire on low revs

Ok, thank you.
It's a bit of a crazy period at work, so not much spare time atm.
Please bear with me.
Monday morning I should be able to test this.
Thanks.

How strong is the vacuum?
Am I at risk of getting a rug in the engine? :(

Re: Misfire on low revs

This has my same engine.
Should I follow this to remove the injectors or do you have any further tip?
Thanks

Thank you, I'll try that tomorrow and let you know how it goes (on late shift today)
Are you thinking of a clogged injector?

Re: Misfire on low revs

Yes, everything you said is correct.
There was no petrol in the cylinder when i removed the spark plug.
My thinking is that even if the cylinder was running dry, if the spark plug was sparking, there would be some signs of burning on it (or maybe not)?

Re: Misfire on low revs

Thanks for the info. I changed the temperature sensor a few years ago because I had a problem with engine running cold. Eventually it was the thermostat. Yes, the fuel consumption is very poor, 200miles on the last full tank. Anyhow, today I spent a bit of time to find the fault. I attach pictures f...

Re: Misfire on low revs

Ok, I tried that trick and car run worse on every coil pack I disconnected.
I also tried swapping a new coil pack with each one of the existing and made no difference.
Checked all wires and they're perfect.
What's next???

Misfire on low revs

Hi everyone, my B5 1.8T has developed a misfire on low revs. I changed the spark plugs with original ones but the fault remains. Considering that I will probably have to get rid of this baby because of ULEZ, I don't want to spend much money on it but I need to run it for another couple of months. My...

Hi, I replaced my seat because it was of different cloth from original.

If interested let me know but at first rain i will have to scrap it.

New headlight fitment

Hi everyone, got to replace my headlights despite polishing them all the time because at last mot i was told and shown that the image is very poor. My B5 doesn't have front fog light, but other B5 do as you know. If I buy the headlights with fog lights, can I simply not put the bulb in there? Would ...

Re: People in need of help in and around the South West..

It was my pleasure. I recommend Aidan to all Passat owners. I thought I was mental using a torque wrench all the time, demineralised water for coolant and screenwash, etc, but no, Aidan does that and more :-bd I wish more mechanics and tradesmen in general took that much pride in their work. It was ...

This exploded view shows both, flanged and round (1 and 2).
So mine seems to be round, correct?
