Just as an update for you all. VW last called at the end of January to say they had no idea when the update would be available at my local garage but they'd get back to me when it is. I've still heard nothing.

I had a call from VW today. They are still saying that there is an update available via an SD card which they are struggling to get hold of. They are still not able to give an approximate timescale on the delivery of the SD card to my local service centre. Its taken them 3 months to get any response ...

The system doesnt have a huge problem with residential addresses which is what was used when I had a test drive. Its the commercial addresses that just do not exist ...

VW got back in touch to say that there was going to be a delay whilst they got the update out to my local service centre. They called again over christmas to say the delay was still ongoing and they would be in touch as soon as they can. They also mentioned that the update was a general update and ...

VW have got back to me and they've 'found' an update that will work on my car. Exactly what it will update they're not sure but its going in next week......

It seems clear to me that VW are offering the free upgrade because they know there are issues with the 315, especially as the upgrade to a 510 is listed as £1,435 on the VW website.

This is great for anyone ordering the car now but not so great for those of us that already have one.

Still no upgrade available. I now also have an annoying problem where the radio decides to change stations by itself which they cant fix.

This whole thing has left me with a very sour taste. I expected a lot more from VW.

Mine is in for a problem with the DAB radio today and I've asked them to see if the upgrade is available for the nav system at the same time. They're going to look into it....

hi wendy, this is definitely not true. I've had it confirmed from a number of people at VW that there is an upgrade available. My local dealer wanted £90 for it which is why I contacted VW directly.

I decided to call VW customer services directly and they fed me some story about a transitional period between the 5 digit and 7 digit models where free upgrades were offered at the dealer via a CD that didnt really make any sense. I've spoken to 2 local dealers about the upgrade and both have promised to call back. Neither have. This isnt exactly what I expected from VW. Is there anyone actually at VW that we can talk to about this?

It sounds like I was correct in thinking that new cars have an upgraded nav system then. I've been in touch with my local service centre to see if I can upgrade but they havent called back. Has anyone else spoken to VW about this?

HJB - Thats a shame. Not that I would have been bothered to do all that preperation. I will probably resort to using my TomTom anyway.
