Re: W8 dead and staying dead
You'll always hear that cackle of a Diesel engine as much as you can try and drown it out with the exhaust....and never be able to rev like a petrol. W8 was just that bit more interesting given it had a flat plane crank. Not gonna diss you diesel boys but just don't like them except for the economy ...

Re: W8 dead and staying dead
If you knew what I'd spent already you wouldn't do any more....and there's nothing you can do to convince me that a diesel will sound as good as the w8 did going through the tunnels coming out of Rotterdam

Re: W8 dead and staying dead
Would be a great shame to break it mate, what's happened to it now for you to throw the towel in? I think your car is an inspiration to most people on here :ymhug: Bottom end away again and it's had 5 engines so more than enough chances................at the end of the day to most folk that see it....

Re: W8 re-build here we come...again and again and again
Seems a hell of an expensive bit of kit considering for about half that you can get Rs6 8 pot calipers and larger drilled 365mm discs.

Re: W8 re-build here we come...again and again and again
Hi mate I will start by saying what a nice car your w8 is, If I can get mine looking that good I would be chuffed. Right down to the main reason I am bothering you, I have a quick question when you fitted your coilovers did you have to do any extra work to the suspension arms or other parts in that...

Re: W8 re-build here we come...again and again and again
badly want one lol Even reading about you luck with yours hasn't put me off. Have you just been really unlucky or are they unreliable? First engine was fine for a long time and after that your buying engines you know nothing about so always hit and miss. Current engine has done 177k and seems fine....

Re: W8 re-build here we come...again and again and again
Will see if I can get back onto photo bucket and stick more pics up. Interior is easy as front seats for straight in. Electrics and heating have the same plugs. Had to change the airbag connectors, but there were quite easy. Rear seats are std 4mo ones that I had re-trimmed when I was having the fro...

Re: W8 re-build here we come...again and again and again
Found a supplier for the shells in Germany so should be good to re-build #4 :hyst They are pretty similar in thickness to most shells TBH so I'm sending some of the new ones away to Glyco for them to measure them and let me know what other VW cars they come on so I can source them easier :D Making t...

Re: passat w8 tuning
Crazy spends to do it and cheaper sticking a different engine in, but fair play in trying if you do. A couple of things I'd do given the engine has to come out. Take the cam adjusters off and check the screens. They will most likely look like this http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/dmcessential...

Re: New custom airbox and inlet pipe on my W8
Christ it was a long long time ago
From what I remember engine bay temps were over 40 degrees and the black plastic airbix and intake pipes were drawing that in. It was also quite a restricted flow in spite of a decent sized filter
