Re: Question about gearboy/clutch swap vr5-tdi
The ratios are completely different in a petrol gearbox they are much lower overall as a petrol engine revs to 6K RPM and a diesel is geared for 4500 rpm max. The TDI sport uses a 240mm clutch, but I suspect the VR5 clutch would be different to that used in the TDI. Karl. OK, thank you Karl. Plan B...

Question about gearboy/clutch swap vr5-tdi
Hi all, I am soon to break a '99 B5 VR5. It has an excellent 5-speed box and clutch. The clutch is on it's way out on my B5.5 PD130 (170 ;) ) tdi 5-speed, and gearbox is a bit noisy in 4th. Can you see where I am going with this? :) So, the tdi has a 228mm clutch, and looking on GSF etc, the VR5 app...

Re: B5.5 Wagon - Finally got the Lorinsers on :)
holey moley small job then, presume the v8 went in the back..? Nope, front engined, firewall moved back :) Those Lorinsers are very different. Im not sure if I like them but had to look at them for a while. :ymhug: I wasn't convinced it would work, but they have definitely grown on me. Still need t...

Re: B5.5 Wagon - Finally got the Lorinsers on :)
Thanks for the comments guys :) did you get the minivan on hyrdros too? :D Ha, no but that mini van was quite special. It ended up with a full box chassis, breathed on 3.9 litre Rover v8, (very) narrowed Ford 9" and lots of trick suspension/brake parts. It was quite a big budget build that was ...

B5.5 Wagon - Finally got the Lorinsers on :)
Hi all, With thanks to many folk on here, I managed to collect the bits required bits to fit my old Lorinsers - 2nd hand 225/40/18's on the 9J rims give a nice little stretch. 5mm spacers up front which get them down to et33. Still running et 38 at the rear, but think I'll pop those out 5mm soon. Go...

Re: Lorinser D93 18's. Can I make them fit?
Thanks for the comments and advice guys. And I shall learn more about wheel offsets! In the mean time, I just won these for €61 (about £50). http://www.ebay.de/itm/320858607462 They look like the cheapy JOM ones, but will do the job for now I hope. :D So, suspension, wheels (with potentially corr...

Re: Lorinser D93 18's. Can I make them fit?
Ahhh a man after my own heart, my b5 is on borbet a's 9j all round AND air suspension! Sothe arches front and rear sit on the tires atm! Hydraulics is my current passion. With a little modification im hoping to have the first UK 'unibody' estate to 3 wheel :) Hydros should work well on b5/5.5, but ...

Re: Lorinser D93 18's. Can I make them fit?
If they already have 12mm spacers are they et38 then. Yeah, that's a good point, but et50 is stamped on the wheel, then 12mm on the spacers, which surely would make effective et62? I will go have another look later... Give me a welder and I'll make something cool, but as you can tell I know nothing...

I have 215/35's on my 9j rims and they give a nice little stretch some 25mm spacers should help the high et's Cool as I am sure that will look, I find the car undergeared as it is. Most of my mileage is 8 hour roadtrips to and from the continent, so need to keep the RR around the same or slightly l...

Re: Lorinser D93 18's. Can I make them fit?
Why did you scrap the s? Just a catalogue of faults and niggles with it at a time when I was just about to move to Germany. Pity really, but it wasn't as good as it looked! Annoyingly they are worth a lot more now than they were 3 years ago. I paid £800 for that one and it was worth more in parts ...

Lorinser D93 18's. Can I make them fit?
Hi all, I had some 18 inch Lorinser D93's on my Benz a few years ago. This one, just here: http://www.utterpiffle.com/Cars/Benz/w124%20S320L/025.JPG Why on earth did I scrap that car?... Anyway, I found the wheels in my barn last week, and tried them on the Passat: http://www.utterpiffle.com/Cars/Pa...

Re: Numpty question from someone clearly missing something?
Had this happen yesterday. My boy spilt some milk in the back, so I slid the drivers seat forward to clean it up. It then wouldn't lock. Took seat out (well, undid front and levered it up to see underneath, and literally had to use a drift and hammer to get the pin to move. Once it was out, it was c...

406kg!
I learnt this on Saturday...
Actually probably about 15kg less than that as we left rear glass, handbrake mech and a few other minor bits in

Re: door stuck shut , help please
We had this on the car we broke for spares at the weekend. I couldn't get it to open at all. My mate used the brute force and ignorance approach. He just yanked sharply on the handle and it opened. When he shut it again, I still couldn't get it open! Might be worth employing a friend with little or ...

I put the pics up on facebook and one of my smartarse friends (who has a very slammed B5 wagon) commented on the last picture saying he was after a rear window, roof bars and a handbrake lever.

Re: Stripping B5.5 for spares - advice on what to remove??
Well, that went well! Borrowed a trailer, picked the Passat up with my old motorhome, then two of us spent 10 hours with spanners on the Friday and a further 5 hours on the Saturday before weighing the shell in Saturday afternoon. The trickiest bit was getting the bloody airbag off! It was a fun wee...

is it rhd? If he's aiming on selling parts to the German & Netherland market I doubt it somehow.. It actually is rhd. The owner brought it back with her after working in the Uk for a couple of years. So it was TÃœV'd here meaning brand new lhd headlights etc. anyway, thanks for the advice guys....

Stripping B5.5 for spares - advice on what to remove??
Morning all, I have just bought an '01 B5.5 2.0 petrol auto (non-tip) wagon. It is v cheap, as it got wet and popped the gearbox controller. Owner then taught it a lesson by leaving it in a garage for 2 and a half years. Anyway, I will have it at my mates barn from around midday tomorrow (friday), a...

Re: Another Newbie (b5.5 TDI wagon)
Incidently, all three letters of TDI are in red on the boot lid. I assumed someone has retrostuck this on at some point, but I've since seen a few more in Germany about the same age with all three letters in red.
I thought the 130 TDi of this era was TDi
Anyone know why?

Re: Another Newbie (b5.5 TDI wagon)
So, within 12 hours of ownership it had a REVO map put on it. The REVO rep (and a good mate) reckons it should be around 170bhp and 290ft/lb. Goes rather well now, and still gets 56mpg indicated on my regular trips from UK to Germany. Well, 56mpg until I hit the German Autobahns, then it goes down s...

Hello all, :-h Chris here, not a newbie to the car scene by any stretch, but new here. Been a regular on Retro-Rides, PH and various Mercedes forums for many years. I have been using my '84 Dodge Ram as a daily for the last year or so, but at 11mpg from its 6 litre v8 petrol boat anchor, it was deci...
