Re: anti freeze smell
When you changed the sensor did you drain the coolant first or do a quick swap over and top up? If any liquid ran/spilt onto the engine it could be just that the smell gets stronger as the engine warms however this should dissapear with time. I would probably run the engine until warm so you can sme...

Re: well... no comments required ....
Anyone think this looks a bit like a vectra? From the back? Think it definately looks like a vauxhall, Vectra/Calibra. Sent from my GT-I9100P using Tapatalk 2 Yeah I agree. TBH the back looks ok other then the exhaust and bumper cut out. I'd like to see this finished before passing too much judgmen...

Re: Little Rant
LMAO! The missus had a mishap like this with a small garage. I ordered a timing belt kit and waterpump for her polo 6n2 1.0E. She called them up to get a quote and provided the reg. She then advised that she already has the belt kit and water pump to which after a short pause he replied ''belt? it's...

I agree, and yeah it is nice knowing the power is there lol My lump as standard pushes out 130bhp and approx 200nm of torque. The handbook states it's 0-60 time is 9.6 seconds but I have had around 8 seconds a few times. 2nd and third pull like hell no matter how many revs its sat at then 4th and 5t...

Re: Is it just me??
Maybe some people don't want to race everywhere. I started driving at 18 and got a white P reg fiat punto for my first car. The only mod that ever had was drawings on it when it was dirty as I was sensible enough to understand that i should save my money for a car that is worth spending mods on (pl...

Re: Temperature needle causing concern
yeah i agree, if it fluctuates its the sender as the coolant cant heat up and cool down that fast, if it changes temperature slowly it's most likely the thermostat. There's a post on how to change the temp sender easily on here somewhere so might be worth a quick look through the how to section. Hop...

Re: Temperature needle causing concern
Im jelous, It's always been the opposite for me lol, The easiest repair i did was changing the starter motor. Literally a 5 min job. Replacing drivers door window was fairly simple too. Changing interior lights to fix the connection (I was mainly scared of breaking it tbh but it would not come out w...

Re: Not leaking....???
Might be worth checking your oil to make sure it's not cream coloured or creamy.
Water could be escaping into the cylinders or oil through the head gasket if it's knackered.

Re: Temperature needle causing concern
Glad to hear you have it sorted. It's unfortunate you have to replace the whole part and can't get the thermostat seperately why do they have to make life so hard ?. Lol, it was the same when i changed my vacuum pipes, had to remove the inlet manifold as VW decided to make a bulky part on one of the...

Re: Temperature needle causing concern
The problem turned out to be the thermostat Had to buy thermostat with housing (just like you said, it's inseparable X( ) Absolute nightmare to change lol, either have to remove bolts that hold the front end together then pull the rad away from the engine or alternatively remove the inlet manifold. ...

Re: Temperature needle causing concern
Thanks and B.ugger! thats what i didn't wanna hear lol. I've just bought a temperature sender so i'll try that first, if it still fails ill replace the thermostat. Is it best to just buy the thermostat (£5) or to get it with the housing (£50)? That is exactly what mine does though, only builds hea...

Cheers buddy, Yeah, it only seems to build heat when stationary. I've just had a shop around for these sensors and found it cheaper here; http://www.germanautopartsdirect.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-PASSAT-UP-TO-2005-ELECTRICAL/c2_55_56/p20/WATER-TEMP-SENDER-4-PIN-GREEN/product_info.html I've used these guys b...

Temperature needle causing concern
Hi, I have recently noticed that my temperature gauge needle is waving at me. When the car is stationary the engine is able to build up heat and reach normal op temperature (90) however when I start driving (even at 30mph) the temperature decreases (sometimes nearly all the way to the lowest reading...
