Re: VCDS for the B6

I noticed on the Gendan website some of the leads are only good for 3 VIN's. Has that always been the case or is it something new? Not really worth buying a second hand lead if it's already been used in 3 cars.

If only! I did try by old lead I used for my B5.5 but alas they don't work. You need to spend £200+ for a proper Rosstech dongle unfortunately.

Re: VCDS for the B6

I was thinking that to be honest. I figured it was worth £4 for now until I eventually get a proper lead.

Re: VCDS for the B6

So my eBay dongle arrived and I've scanned my car with both the Carisra and Torque apps. Torque shows no fault codes stored and Carista shows a code related to the drivers side front door lock. Unfortunately it doesn't show you the code or full description unless you pay so that app is pretty useles...

Re: All I want to do is remove the f ing ashtray!

I've noticed mine (sport model) doesn't light up either! Let us know how you get on and take some pics if you can. It seems easier if you can pull the lighter out directly from the inside as per one of the posts on that link.

Re: Cigarette lighter/12v socket

That is exactly the info I need, many thanks!

I realise I'm being somewhat fussy here but I like to have all those little bits and pieces as they should be. I wonder if I can buy one of those little flaps from the dealers or, possibly more likely, I'd have to buy the whole console?!

Thanks again.

Cigarette lighter/12v socket

Hi all. I'm just replacing a few minor parts missing from the interior on my sport model, can someone tell me (or show me) what type lighter I need for the front ashtray? Or is it not actually a lighter and simply a 12v socket plug? What do they look like on the sport? Same with the rear console bet...

Re: VCDS for the B6

I think this will be my first port of call before I invest in VCDS. I've just downloaded Carista and will pick up a bluetooth dongle on eBay.

Edit. What dongle do people use for the Carista (or similar) app? One that goes into the cigarette lighter?

Oh..... I must have missed that shipping part! Yes Gendan sounds like a far better option in that case.

Re: VCDS for the B6

All depends what you want to do with the VCDS lead. If you just want to read and clear fault codes on modules something like the carista app on an android phone with a bluetooth dongle for £5 off Fleabay is pretty good. There are several different code readers available at various prices. Of cours...

Re: VCDS for the B6

The important thing is I buy the correct cable for my car and it does what I need it to do, I think I'll just buy a genuine Micro-CAN direct from Ross tech for $249.00. Cheers guys.

Re: VCDS for the B6

Actually having looked at the micro USB dongle, that's probably more suited to what I need, cheaper too - $249 from Ross Tech or just over £200 from the other.

Re: VCDS for the B6

Thanks for the info. I've just searched their site and it looks like I'm using the cheap cable they sell and it appears it's only for cars from '96-'03. Perhaps I need a different cable. I only want to be able to scan the car for fault codes and clear them etc, I'm not fussed about being able to cod...

VCDS for the B6

I've just tried to give my recently acquired B6 TFSI it's first scan and I got the dreaded "no response from controller" message. I'm using one of the cheap blue eBay cables which worked fine in my old B5.5. Do I need a different cable? If not any suggestions to get it working? Ross Tech w...

Re: Thinking of buying a B6.....

Thanks Richard, I'll look into this when time allows. I must say it's got plenrty of service history with it being owned from new by HM Revenue and Customs. I've not seen any mention about the cam follower mind.

I've alreday started searching eBay for bit and bobs that i'm going to replace on it!

Re: Thinking of buying a B6.....

Bought the car today and I'm back home. I'm happy with it. I pushed every button and pushed every knob to make sure everything's working as it should - all good. The bootlid has no rust and the handbrake works as it should (for now!) It needs a few little bits doing to tidy it up but nothing major o...

Re: Thinking of buying a B6.....

It's just the bumper itself, in fact if you zoom in on the picture you can just about make it out. I'll be checking the bootlid for rust anyway. The key...... I called the main dealer and it's £200 alone just for the key and another £65 to have it coded so £265 all in! I'll certainly want somethi...

Re: Thinking of buying a B6.....

Right, I've just spoken to the dealer and I'm going to see it tomorrow. He tells me the only thing worth mentioning is a few scratches on the rear bumber near the bootlid, apparently only £70 or so in paint to repair and thats only if you're fussy. I'm not overly concened by that. Unfortunately it'...

Re: Thinking of buying a B6.....

I agree - I'm happy with that spec. The Highline obviously offers more but I prefer the sports model overall. Hopefully it won't sell between now and Saturday and it'll be as good as it looks. You can do many of the upgrades. I had multi-function steering wheel added with paddles onto my '06My tFSI...
