Re: Help required after engine swap
Had another look at the timing. Obviously catch see the crank pulley so I removed no.1 glow plug and inserted a thin alloy rod. As far as I can tell it is at TDC when the cam pulley is in position. Is it possible to see a flywheel mark? Don't know if it is significant but this engine has a softer ra...

Re: Help required after engine swap
It is starting to look a timing issue. The syncro angle not show it up at it is in relation to the flywheel, which was replaced with a Valeo unit. Might pull out a glow plug at the weekend and check again.

Re: Help required after engine swap
Plot thickens. Checked injectors on both engines. Both are 038130073ba. Can't see the engine number properly. Looks like there is some raised lettering at the top both can't be sure. Wonder could I have got the cambelt timing wrong although you would think that I wouldn't get a reading for the synch...

Re: Help required after engine swap
Thanks guys. I will check the injectors and the engine code. AVF was on the plastic cam cover but I know that means nothing. Couldn't find it on the old engine. Will check again know I have the location. Trevor

Help required after engine swap
Hello all. Wife's pd130 needs a new clutch etc so I took the opportunity to swap the engine for a low mileage one when I was at it. Now the new engine runs fine but a lot less power and a softer noise. almost like a 105bhp. Original was an AVF and the donar was an A4 And of the same year. Turbo and ...

Thanks again Ray. It's roughly £250 for two Hella lamp and slightly less for two Depo lamps. I'll polish up first before splashing out. Trev

Re: new headlights
Thanks Ray. They are very cloudy and the dips are dangerously bad, even with 35w hids. I did polish them a few years ago and they came up good for a year or so. Now there is condensation in them as well. I don't mind buying new lights if there will be a noticeable improvement.

new headlights
Hello all.
Looking to fit two new headlights on my 4motion. Can anyone recommend a quality unit and does anyone make a unit with a standard reflector for the dip instead of the projector lens. Trev

Re: Solid or DMF. How can I tell
Thanks for all the advise. Hopefully I will get round to changing all those bits soon. Leaking crank seal is a torture. My crank seal on my MK2 golf is currently leaking badly. Makes a mess everywhere I park. Regards Trevor

Tiguan alloys on a b5.5
Hello everyone. Anyone know if Tiguan 16" alloy would fit a passat B5.5. A crowd in Germany said they wouldn't fit but I can't see why not. My alloys are 7J15H and the Tiguan alloys are 6.5j16H. Tiguan ET is 33 compared to 37 for the passat but I dont think 4mm would matter. If not are there an...

Re: Solid or DMF. How can I tell
Will do. LUK seems to be a popular choice. I noticed on some threads that people mention changing an oil seal. Anyone known if they are on about the gearbox or crank seal. Many thanks

Solid or DMF. How can I tell
Hello. I have a 04 1.9tdi 4motion with an AVF engine and 6 speed box and 180K miles on it. Clutch has recently started to slip. We bought the car with 77K on it and have never done any clutch or flywheel related work on it. I would like to buy the parts in advance but have no idea if the car have be...

Re: Best camshaft kits
I can only find two but its obvious what car they thought it was for. The paper filter is also on the receipt. They know me quite well as I worked nextdoor for years. I dont think I'll get anywhere especially if the parts man denies all. I think the best I can hope for is a discount which would stil...

Re: Best camshaft kits
It 10w40 oil was vw505.00. I had my reservations all along but I have misplaced my handbook will the specs but I was in the dealers yesterday pricing bits. I ask the same guy who sold me the oil on at least three or four occasions what oil who he use. He quoted the 5w version this time. I replied &q...

Re: Best camshaft kits
Honest answer is ignorance. Both on my part and my main dealer parts counter. He has been selling me 10w40 for over two years . I had my reservations and asked him was he sure on several occasions. I said this is a AVF PD engine. His answer was "this is the oil we sell now for all the older eng...

Best camshaft kits
Hello all. I need a camshaft for my pd130 avf. Is there a general consensous on the best camshaft at a sensible price. Ebay is a minefield. Very few name the manufacturer, probably because there Chineese. I see "heavy duty camshafts kits" available for around £200. Spoke to another guy an...

Re: 4motion track width
I assume you're referring to the shocks. I didn't fit them for performance/speed. Just wanted a firmer shock as the car bottomed on dips and hollows. Tried A6 standard shocks and wasn't impressed. Had biltsteins B4s on my corrado and they were great . Comfortable and not too hard. But I thought they...

Re: 4motion track width
Car is standard, apart from bildstein b6 shocks which might have increased rideheight a fraction but only mms. I understand what you are saying about the strings converging. That is the reason that when I measured it the second time that I kept the strings parallel and measured to the wheel centres....

Re: 4motion track width
The Camber makes sense but I seem to have about 15mm difference at the wheel centres. This is going to sound very agricultural but this is how I measured the difference. I ran string down both sides of the car and positioned them 60mm from each centre cap. Then I marked the string 700mm froward of t...

4motion track width
Hello all. Has anyone any idea what the front and rear track is on a 04 tdi 4motion. The only information I can find on the web says they are the same but I think the front track is roughly 15mm wider than the rear. Any help is appreciated. Trevor

Hello Karl. I agree but it just does have the usual wheel bearing drone. Couldn't see how cornering could affect the diff. Are there any tests to eliminate the diff.

Diff or wheel bearing
Hello all. Wife's 130pd 4motion is making an unusual noise when cornering. Little or no noise in a straight line but definitely there when cornering. Doesn't sound like the usual wheel bearing drone and I all seems well when I jacked up and turned the wheels. Are my diff bearings on the way out. I t...
