Re: AFN TDI fuel pump timing
Did you use locking pins to do the belt. Yes, i used the proper locks. Rotated it a couple of times and they slid in fine. I'm happy the belt is spot on, can't be said for the Pump timing now....... I tried to turn the Pump yesterday to see what it did, was kinda the opposite to what i was expectin...

Re: AFN TDI fuel pump timing
As long as the rest is timed correctly i don't think it will harm to try it. When you say the rest do you mean the cam belt timing? i did have a bit of a moment as my flywheel had a 0 and a I on it, but after doing some reading up it turns out it should be timed to the 0 so at that point the cam lo...

Re: AFN TDI fuel pump timing
So before i go tinkering and mess this up do i have this right, the % is how much the ems is advancing the fuel timing to meet the 1.3 BTDC target timing. I've read that it can only give 18 degrees of advance, so for example, 50% is 9 degrees too retarded so the ems is advancing the timing by 9 degr...

Re: AFN TDI fuel pump timing
So...... i've done a little reading up and it doesn't seem as dramatic as i first thought. I've just hooked it up to my VCDS lite (unregistered version) and the 004 line in the metering blocks is saying 1.3 55% at operating temp which i'm led to believe isn't engine threatening. As it stands i'm kin...

AFN TDI fuel pump timing
Err i think i have just messed up...... So today i fixed a leaky front core plug in my 1999 B5 Tdi and while i was there replaced all the o-rings in the pump housing. The problem is in my ultimate wisdom i removed the fuel pump as all the timing belt and sprockets were off anyway to get better acces...

Re: Part number help?
Bit of an update...... I managed to get the two 50mm o-rings and a 94mm o-ring for the coolant pump, took the pump housing off the car to go through it all and make sure it's 100% and i've just noticed the coolant is running down the back of the metal rear timing cover :(( on closer inspection, i ca...

Part number help?
Hi all. I have a 1999 Vw passat b5 tdi (AFN) that has a coolant leak coming from the pump area. So after doing all the easy stuff (new Coolant pump, pump o-ring, plastic flange o-ring on the back of the housing), i haven't fixed it which has me thinking it's the o-ring between the pump housing and t...

Re: Power steering...... again.
Ok, thanks. I thought for a minute it could be the fluid overheating but i kicked it up after putting 2lt's of fluid through it and it squealed straight away (not even close to full lock). Grrr...... Just to add insult to injury, i have been manually moving the steering to bleed the fluid and notice...

Re: Power steering...... again.
Maclee, I have just been out flushing the PS fluid again and noticed my car doesn't appear to have a PS cooler line?? there only appear to be two lines going to the PS rack and the reservoir only has two take off's both going to the pump?? it doesn't look like it's been messed with and it doesn't lo...

Re: Power steering...... again.
Bit of an update...... So i bought one of these banjo check valves and fitted it, the first thing i noticed was the old one was very weak and didn't fully seal (so i had my fingers crossed), once i got the heat shield off the steering rack it was a straight forward enough if a little fiddly job to d...

This has been going on for so long now I have a feeling it's going to be something a bit obscure.

Power steering...... again.
Hi all, I'm fighting a 90% to full lock belt squeal on my 99 B5 Passat tdi, it's been driving me mad for quite a while now and have replaced nearly everything to do with the PS (Pump, fluid multiple times with the correct VW oil, new OEM reservoir, belt, tensioner, alt pulley, crank pulley, PS pump ...

99 B5 5speed gear linkage??
Hi all. Is there anyone clued up on gear selector linkages?? I have a 99 B5 tdi 5 speed that has the early type selector (i believe its part number is 8D0711025) like the picture below, this selector has a reverse lockout. Lets say it's seen it's best days and there is way more play than there shoul...

Thanks for your reply....... yes i had some issues with the wiring a few years ago so it's my 'go to' when i have wacky electrical issues but in this case, i couldn't find any issues with it.

CCM issue??
Hi all...... Sorry for yet another CCM post, i have spent hours over the last few days searching and tbh i'm fairly sure my CCM is dying but with the festive period won't get my hands on one until New year. So about two weeks ago now my Interior lights stopped working (no power at the bulb holders w...

Re: AFN Aux pulleys? PS squeal on full lock.
Thank for the reply, I kinda learnt that myself to be honest, when maneuvering in tight spaces etc i would not hold it in full lock simply because of the noise it makes but even that makes this loud squeal when i briefly touch full lock and let it off (loud enough to have people looking at you when ...

AFN Aux pulleys? PS squeal on full lock.
Hi all. So i've had a squealing noise on my 170,000 mile 99 B5 Tdi for quite a while now and frankly it's been driving me mad, i've fitted a new Alt pulley, new PS pump, new water pump, alignment checked, good used rack, all the lines, Gates Belt, OE AUX tensioner, the correct fluid (flushed thoroug...

Re: Power steering full lock noise??
Simply put. Change your alternator clutch pulley. It’s that. [emoji106][emoji108] Is this one of those parts that need to be oe? i fell into that trap with the Maf recently....... Vw wanted nearly £200 for a Pulley so i ended up with a Luk Pulley from a decent local parts place. I had a bit of a mo...

Re: Power steering full lock noise??
well that was short lived......... reversed the car off the drive this morning and it made the noise again. Whats odd is it only makes the noise one in five lock to locks now (suppose some progress) TBH i took it for granted VW supplied me the right oil (i believe it's G004000M2) the only part that'...

Re: Power steering full lock noise??
Bit of an update....... Now the oil that came out looke...

Re: Power steering full lock noise??
Just fitted a new pulley....... tbh it doesn't appear to have made any difference, when i flicked the plastic cover of the front it was full of rust colored crud so it wanted changing anyway.
