I’ve heard of it! Get ya tools out, easy enough job.
Give the carriers a clean out with a file and check your pistons while you’ve got your pads out.

Re: Passenger footwell carpet damp.
I’d have a guess that your door panel seal has gone? and water is coming over the sill trim.
Also did you ever lift your passenger side carpet?
I’d bet you have water under there eating your electrics also corrosion in your wiring plugs behind kick panel.

Re: Sealing the door panels
If your cars locking itself after 30 sec with the door open? It’s your main micro switch or associated wiring/board(99% it’s the switch) easy test. The last one I did on mine was a fracture in one of the wires to the switch! Chopped the wires shorter and re-soldered job done. If you pop these module...

Re: Sealing the door panels
Use butyl sealing cord, clean out the bottom edge and around 100mm up each side of said panel.
Apply your cord, put panel back and tighten! Job
done.
No mess great seal and easy to remove in the future should need be.
Done all my doors with it! Great stuff.

I had the very same thing recently on my wagon. I checked every square inch of my wiring(carpets out) even tried different ccm. After deciding and checking all my earths as a last resort I found out there's one right next to the Ariel mount under the rear headlining. Strange thing is it was solidly ...

Yeah, there's some yellow(20 i think) that are behind dash and on/next to the relay board.
You should find your culprit there.
Couple of torx headed bolts to drop the lower section of dash T25 i think?,job done.

When you first open the car with your fob, open the drivers door and wait(normally around 30 seconds?) does the car lock itself with the door open?

I had same issue on previous wagon.
Took the level sender unit out and used some electrical contact cleaner on the arm and it's opposite contact.
Job done and back to no dodgy readings.

First off, your lock has seized through lack of use with the key.(release spray/3in one and gently turning freed mine) I'm now a font of knowledge regarding tailgate locks ~x( Having not had a opening tailgate on my fairly newly purchased wagon i was not resting until I got it fully functioning with ...

Re: B5.5 estate interior lights
Your luggage compartment is controlled by the micro switch in your tailgate lock.
Three wires,common,normally open,normally closed.
Mine had very slight corrosion causing fault! Cleaned it up and the three pins in the connector and bingo.
Easy check with a multimeter on micro switch.
Cheers Craig

This is my second wagon and all carrier panels have been off/locks checked/repaired and re sealed!!
I'm thinking about doing a blindfold how to version.
I must be getting better at it as the last one took me half hour from start to finish
